A QR code menu for food trucks

Updated

A food truck has one small window and a queue that decides whether to stay. A QR code on the side of the truck lets people read the full menu while they wait, on their own phone, in the shade.

Let the queue decide before the window

Put a large QR code at eye level on the side of the truck and one on the menu board. People who know what they want order in seconds, which means more orders per hour at a busy event.

Different prices at different events

Festival pricing is often different from your weekday lunch spot. Update prices before each event from your phone; the QR code on the truck never changes.

Sold out mid-service

When the brisket runs out at 2pm, mark it sold out so nobody queues for ten minutes to be disappointed.

Be findable after the event

Print your menu link on napkins and boxes. Guests who loved the food can find your menu again and follow where you will be next.

Common questions

How big should the QR code on the truck be?

People scan from a few metres away, so make it at least 15 cm (6 inches) square and test it from the back of a typical queue.

Does it work with poor signal at events?

The menu page is light and loads on slow mobile data. Keep a printed board as a backup.

Can I run several trucks?

Each truck can have its own menu with its own link and QR code.
